Our curriculum of study provides a basic framework in the academic areas of Religion, Mathematics, English Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Teachers in all grades use the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English Language Arts and Math, and the Next Generation Science Standards. Teachers use their creativity to implement the CCSS in ways that accomodate students’ different learning styles.
Art, Music, Spanish, Physical Education, Library and Technology are also included in weekly instruction in all grades. The school library is staffed by a full time, certified librarian and houses a collection of over 5,000 searchable items through a web-based catalog. In addition, we host an Honors Math program for children in grades 5 through 8. This program is administered by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
For children who may need additional help in reading, there is a Title One reading specialist who works with the children in small groups. We also have the services of CORA, an auxiliary agency, which provides remedial math and reading teachers, a school counselor, a speech therapist, and a psychologist for psycho-educational testing as the need arises.
As all professionals need to update, teachers at St. Mary Interparochial School are required to obtain one hundred eighty hours of curriculum-related professional development every five years. These hours of in-services, workshops, and college classes are monitored by the PA Department of Education.
