St. Mary's Varsity team finished the 2012 regular season in 4th place with an impressive 24-15 record earning them a playoff bid. In the opening round, St. Mary’s faced the reigning Region 6 champions, St. Richards and won the best-of-five impressively, three games to one. In the semi-finals, the Storm stepped up to the region’s first-place team, Sacred Heart, which had won five of six over St. Mary’s during the season. The match ended in a tremendous upset, however, with St. Mary’s sweeping quickly 3-0.

The championship match brought formidable St. Monica’s and it went right down to the wire. In the fifth game, with the match tied at two games each, St. Mary’s came from behind to score three consecutive points to win the title. This was the first volleyball championship ever for St. Mary's!
